12 Feb3 Keys to Avoiding The New Years Resolution Slump

Now that February has settled in, most of the “New Years Resolutionaries” have gone back to their typical habits. The motivation to wake up at 6 am to exercise isn’t there like it was during January. It is easier to hit the snooze or turn on the TV. If you are like most people, you will slowly work out less and less until your promise to yourself fades into a distant memory.

You made a promise to yourself for a reason.

You want to lose weight, be healthy, look good, have more energy, and stay up-to-date with your exercise. The question is how?

1. Make Your Goals Manageable

Even if your ultimate goal is to lose 20 pounds, that is a tough goal to follow through on. What happens when you gain a pound by turning fat into muscle? Is that a bad thing? No. Don’t have your goals tied to numbers and sizes. Instead, make your goal something you can control such as exercising 3 times per week.

2. Make It Fun

Getting fit doesn’t have to mean waking up at 4 am to go running through the snow. What activities do you enjoy? Use those things to get fit. If you don’t love walking on the treadmill, you could make a great playlist or listen to a new podcast. Don’t let your workouts become boring.

3. Be Accountable

The best way to ensure follow through is to find accountability. Do you have any friends who have similar goals? Keep each other accountable. You care too much about them to let them fail and they should feel the same about you. You could even work out together.
